Err war helps the economy lol, that's why we've been starting conflicts ever since World War 2. I'm not saying it's an appropriate solution or that it works anymore(We are bleeding resources in Iraq, total drain on economy) because selfish people are profiteering through the war like Halliburton (Which Dick Cheney used to run), who would literally run trucks off the road to collect insurance money from the government as private defense contractors.

Yeah, that's why the economy is in such great shape now.
War doesn't bring money in at all. You have to spend money for war efforts. Fuel for ships, fighter jets, weapon research, munitions.
Starting another war now when we're still trillions of dollars(and growing) in debt from the last one will break this nation.

nah bro, war is great for america because they make all the weapons if they were to go to war they gain resources although it all depends. Think of war as a business, when running a business you want to sell your stuff more than it costs to make it and pay your staff, in the same way if you invade another country you weigh up the economic benefits yes there will be costs like you mentioned fuel for ships and jets e.t.c, i disagree on weapon research as you americans do a **** tonne of that anyway without going to "war" BUT i mean one hell a chunky butt i am talking jlo style (freudian slip) you can get control of valuable resources like oil but also industry and maybe more importantly people(people are a valuable resource population is what created the soviet super power and now the chinese dragon economy) dududu... MUAHAHAHAHAAHAA INFINITE TSUKUYOMI SHALL BE COMPLETED after i download the kyubii off mozilla's website(I half stole that one from a meme but idgaf).

No, it worked for a long time after World War 2 into the 70's. Then corruption set in when people realized how much money could be made off of wars, that was my whole point in bringing in the point about Halliburton. War profiteers have cannibalized the industry and have been doing it for a while now.
It brings in TONS of money, how do you think we got out of the Great Depression? The amount of jobs, infrastructure and synergy the war required left us standing incredibly tall after the war's end, even with us paying for and helping out with restructuring(Even the South after the Civil War didn't get the same treatment at all :P). And guess what? Germany and Japan, whose economy we helped bolster and restore after the war, are some of the world's largest players who helped fuel the world economy after the collapse of the USSR and birth of China as a true power.
It also propelled us well into the 60's, and served us greatly during the first 150 years of America's development as a nation. It creates an enemy and someone for the whole country to stand against while giving up or forgetting some wants/needs. I'm not saying it's working at all anymore or is the right way to do things, but it's how America became the most powerful country in the world.

The jobs and economic stimulation created by war is the reason for the myth that war is good for the economy. Sure, things appear to be getting better, but behind it all government spending only increases as the war drags on, more money going out than coming in. That's why taxes always increase during a war, because the government needs the money out of circulation and back in the govt's wallet to balance things out.
The corruption rampant throughout the economy certainly contributes, but the main reason is that Bush drained resources, spending money we didn't have, chasing something that didn't exist. Had those weapons of mass destruction actually existed they would have been found quickly and we wouldn't be in as much trouble as we are now.

If we had found WMD's we certainly never would have left, it would have been a great way to create a new state in the Middle East run by the US hehe
No, look at wars like WW2 and early American wars for imperial purposes; they created infrastructure and industry vital to the USA's ascent to the top. I'm not saying it's right, but saying America hasn't profited from centuries of war and imperialism is denying our very nature ;D
I totally agree that in plenty of cases war was a total waste of resources, but it hasn't always been that way either. Until the Korean Wars, Vietnam and other conflicts war was a very good way to give industry, technology and therefore confidence in self enterprise and economic independence in the self, ergo the economy improves. People were not only spending, they were buying what needed to be bought and continuously raised both supply and demand. That kind of synergy is what makes up a self sustaining economy; exporting our labor for example, totally takes the legs out of chunks of our industry and in my opinion is one of the great weakeners overall now. A little is fine, but we are now exporting the middle class jobs as well. Soon we will all just be Wal-Mart employees(Not that there is anything wrong with working at Wal-Mart, I worked in a store like it for a while) in a bunch of standardized service jobs, and even those will begin to disappear. There is nothing bad about the service industry, aside from being a musician they're the only jobs I've worked, but they are only part of a larger machine that is the economy.
If we keep exporting jobs, soon we export CEO jobs and such and then we have other people ruling the country. It's already starting to happen...
That's getting way ahead of this argument though.

War throughout the ages has helped indirectly through technological advancement. New technologies are developed for the purpose of defeating the enemy. When the war is over, the economic damage must be repaired. Practical everyday uses for the new technologies are found, the radio for example. Mass production of the new product creates jobs, stimulates the economy, is exported, bringing more money into circulation as well as in the government's wallet.
War itself is not good for the economy, and when the war causes no technological advancement, then things will only continue to worsen.
