I think things will turn out quite a bit different and maybe a bit faster. The world economy is "basically" an economy based on infinite growth in a World with FINITE resources. One way or another, our current economy/monetary system will 100% without a doubt end. When it finally does, things will change very rapidly. How rapid depends on how the transition goes (ie how the current system comes to an end).
There is no energy or food crisis. We have, right now and for a loooong time, enough food to feed the planet several times over yet over 1 billion are starving. And way more than enough "potential" energy production (safe clean energy). It's just not being utilized. Why? Largely because of our current monetary system. The system perpetuates scarcity (among many other negative things). Without scarcity this system cannot survive. This will inevitably change.
As for technology, it indeed will and already IS taking our jobs. But that's not a bad thing. Maybe too long for me to say why it's a good thing (you can easily look it up). But I'll tell you a reason why unemployment will only continue to worsen. One word. Profit. That's what the current economy is all about. Because of that I can promise you there will never be any REAL improvement with unemployment. No matter what the polititions tell you. They know it too. But remember, it's not a bad thing as far as the future is concerned.
