I think the art is nice but I feel a pokemon live action movie wouldn't work so well, as it wouldn't really appeal to the different types of audience that supports pokemon.

I feel the pokemon anime has dragged on way too long then it should have. I have been wanting an anime adaptation of the "pokemon adventures" manga for quite some time now as I think that has a much better plot then the current anime.

Well, that's part of the issue. Pokemon supports all kinds of audiences. There's everything from kids who are just getting into it, to folks like me who know the games like the back of our hands, have followed it since Red and Blue, and enjoy the fact that they're finally putting more substance into the games. Pokemon is one of the most universally appealing game series that I've ever played. I feel like there's something for almost every type of gamer in it, and I think that's the key to its success.


It'll almost certainly never happen. The audience of the Pokemon anime is much to used to the little group of characters that they've had for them to quit with them now to make an adaptation of a story that's long since out of date, even though fans may like it. The best solution is probably to just read the manga, which isn't too hard now that VIZ is giving it good publications here in the US at long last. (Albeit, if you like it really true to the Japanese version, you're still out of luck.)

A fanboy can only dream. I just want the pokemon anime to change, as I am honestly sick of the plot with team rocket stealing/capturing pokemon again and again. If pokemon went in a different direction it wouldn't be that bad. I'm not even talking about just pokemon adventures, but just the whole plot to change in general.

For example, I enjoyed watching this 4:50 trailer more then I have the whole current series of pokemon.

I currently do own all of the pokemon adventure volumes that viz has released, and I do buy each volume every month it is released. Seeing how pokemon is big in Japan, I think even if they just made a whole new anime and still continue the current anime with ash it would not be such a bad move as it would give people a break/different feeling to just seeing pikachu thundershock team rocket for countless episodes.

i dont think they should make a live action pokemon movie for 2 reasons....

1. I am loosely still attached to Pokemon and they always ruin the shows with their live-action movies

2. It will scare the crap out of kids, scroll back up and look at mr. Mime

That was pretty good, I'll give it that. The tension in it felt real, like there was more substance to it than there is in the Pokemon cartoon. The series has the potential to be more deep and plot-oriented, but the anime doesn't seem to care, doesn't seem to realize that it's the same tired old formula again and again. It needs to be deconstructed and reconstructed if it's going to impress anyone.


I still feel that Pokemon is best left in the realm of cartoons and video games. One of the problems with adapting Pokemon in particular to a live-action form is the fact that it's already such a polarized fanbase, as I've mentioned. You might want Red, but someone else might prefer Ash, and still others something completely fresh. An even if the designs might look interesting, what exactly would the plot be like? Just an excuse to see Pokemon battles? That's the core issue here.


To be fair, some franchises do transition rather nicely to live-action film. For instance, Marvel usually does a fine job with the adaptations they do of their comic books, and most fans feel about the same way. I'd wager it has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of their series have a universal appeal, and they're already urban fantasy, so it's not too absurd for the general audience to grasp. (But then again, considering a Dr. Strange film is in the works...)

Pokemon in live-action would probably appeal only to a small majority, and fans of the games will probably think that the notion is absurd. Most video games just wouldn't make for good movies.
