I would suggest try running the game through administrator and check your antivirus and firewall programs. Sometimes they can conflict with the games connection, I know I had a problem starting up the game, so maybe try allowing DBO to run through it or maybe try turning it off.

So let met get this straight, can you access the character selection screen or just after you log in that error comes?
