This isn't something I'm proud of, but I used to be one of those people who exclusively read manga and watched anime, disdaining their equivalents from other countries -- until I started to actually get interested in them, thanks to some friends who enjoyed both. I feel like right now, I have the best of both worlds and a broader variety of series to choose from as a result. At the end of the day, they really are the same things, they're just from different countries. Cartoons and comics from France, for instance, have their own stylistic quirks that differentiate them from either their American or Japanese equivalents. Despite this, Japan is often seen as the only country to obtain 2D entertainment from.
So what is it that keeps you away from comics? Is it the negative social stigma from them? Are you an elitist who can't bring him/herself to watch something that isn't anime because it "isn't good enough" for you? (be honest) Have you never been exposed to American cartoons or comics? Is it difficult for you to get into them? Do you think they're all child-oriented and not as mature as the anime you're watching? I feel all of those are pretty big misconceptions that a lot of people have about the whole "American media Vs Japanese media" debate.
So why aren't reading comics? Why aren't you watching cartoons? Try to be as honest as possible here, I'm seriously interested in seeing what you have to say.

I watch everything and read everything that interest me. There's no boundary for me, Cause honestly I Enjoy the Justice League more then a lot of anime I seen.
You just need a open mind, Example why does a lot of guys don't want to try watching My Little Pony? it's the same people who don't want to try new things to see if they like something is not opened minded.

I do watch other things besides anime. I watch whatever catches my eye. I don't like reading all that much, too lazy. Comics aren't for me.
Recently finished watching the animated Spiderman series. To be honest, it was my first time looking into the marvel universe.
As for My Little Pony, I have to say it's mildly entertaining. I still think the fandom of it is annoying. In fact the fandom is the main reason I was close minded to the series. Utter disdain for anything unnaturally popular.

I used to be big on western cartoons But as I grew older alot of them just started to stop being entertaining to me. If it isn't at all nostalgic to me then you wont catch me watching it. It isn't just because I feel cartoons are childish, but because I do feel they are aimed more at children and are more difficult for me to be initially drawn in. If someone sat me down in front of a western style cartoon with an actual plot, I might end up finishing it though you wont find me doing this voluntarily, but I'm like that with anime as well. One peice is one of my favorites atm and I flat out refused to watch it for years. I'm just stubborn and impatient, most of the anime I watched sucked me in on the first episode with an interesting concept and/or plot.
As for comics I have never really had much exposure to them and doubt I will try to at all. Although I would be lying if I said this had anything to do with the stigma related around them. But it is more to do with the fact of having little motivation to pick on up. I already dislike reading manga and prefer an animated outlet. But when I get impatient on a plot of a story (Naruto, Bleach, One peice) I turn to the manga and end up reading 40 chapters in the time I could watch one episode. This then ruins the show for me and I end up regretting it.
Although I do prefer the Raw images and language manga has to offer not being filtered for younger audiences, I still prefer the animated layout.

I don't enjoy MLP at all but i was using it as a example. But At least you were open minded enough to watch it first unlike others.
You need to dive more into DC universe.

I wasn't open minded. I was very close minded. I never would have watched it if I hadn't lost a bet on a duel with someone who is also very close minded towards the show and thought it would make for a humiliating punishment. He was right, to an extent. I hate the sentiments of friendship and happiness that come with the show, but once you manage to get past that the story is well written and gave me a chuckle or two.

My whole reason for not reading comics is because its seems really dorky, i mean i don't have any friends irl who say "oh did you read the new x-men comic".. my friends are more like "want to go out and fun" kind of type. Manga and Anime is basically a whole other part of my life that me and my brother only do (basically for fun) I really enjoy anime a lot but its not something i'd admit to other people like its a hobbie. Its basically like this i keep my online on one side of my life, My Real life in the middle and my anime and manga on the other side. Also, i'm not that type of person who has my room filled with anime and stuff lol just a normal room. Anyway, back to what i was mainly talking about. I don't read comics because i think and it feels kind of dorky, Also another reason why i refuse to read x-men comics is because well lets say i saw a show on it such as Wolverine and the x-men or x-men evolution. I wouldn't see the characters the same in the manga (since in the show they have different appearance and sorta different personalities) Above all, i think reading comics is kind of embarrassing and dorky. <-- I don't judge anyone for reading comics, go for it. Its just i don't see myself reading comics like i said before because it seems dorky and not something i see myself doing. sorry for constantly saying dorky

Well not only do I have a reputation to keep, but I also just don't find them "that" interesting anymore. Yea I do read my Marvel and DC, but I read the free ones online and be content with that....Then again I am 3 years away from being 30 years old, something's gotta give.
