Well being an avid 8 user I decided to try out their new beta test. Have to say, fucking awesome. I'll post more about it as I explore deeper into the new 8, but for now I leave you with this:

Honestly, this should have been done from the beginning. When the full version is released, those of us who liked the multitasking in Win 8 can REALLY get our fill of it. We can drag the edges and fit several apps at the same time on 1 screen. I have tested the multitasking on 2 monitors and unlike before, the desktop app does not insist on being active in both monitors.

Well while the preview is still available I invite you to give it a second try. I am finding marked improvements left and right. If you still hate it afterwards at least you'll have a more informed opinion than before.

Well what the difference between window 8 and 8.1

It's a major update for windows 8. I guess you could call it Windows 8 Service Pack 1. Except there are many features coming, not just fixes. That's why they released it as a seperate beta operating system prior to release. They want to make sure users will like the changes.

Before 8.1, if you wanted to multitask, the apps would snap to the side and many of them would have little to no functionality in such a state. With 8.1 you can control the size of the boundaries, not only allowing these apps to work properly but also allowing even more apps to be displayed at the same time.

After playing with it, Windows 8.1 does in fact allow you to have your own image for start screen background, though it seems to only let you use the lockscreen background for it if you want a custom image. Well, better than what we had which is having to use 3rd party software like Decor8.

The start screen has an improved UI. There are more options for controlling the size of tiles. You can make them even smaller now and even larger.

The PC Settings Metro app has many more functionalities now. Instead of it being that app that is nothing compared to control panel, it actually has many of the same functions as control panel. With the full release of 8.1 it may become an effective replacement.

Also as you may have noticed with my screenshot, they gave us the start button back. The windows store UI is much more straight forward and easier to use now.

SkyDrive seems to be integrated with the OS now instead of just being another app. I'm not too happy about them shoving that in my face. I might eventually use it if they gave you more free storage than they do, but I don't see that happening so I will choose to ignore it.

I'm still exploring the new features. I'll come back with more later.
