This method works for me. After patching as the instructions tell you, you remove the base.pak, the readme and the patcher from the entire folder. Then delete the gameguard folder and relaunch. I'm not sure if the last part needs to be done but that's what i needed to do when the patch keep getting me booted from the server. i hope this helps
