I just wanted to add that Guru on planet namek in DBZ seemed to be a giant namek also. Maybe it was only the most powerful nameks had the ability.

slug is non cannon and its work like instict(hope spell it right :p) like when he lost his arm against raditz he grew a new arm(he learn that he is namek when vegeta came to earth) |

I always assumed that needing dragonballs for the transformations was to awaken a dormant gene or ability that the newer generations would find more difficult to reach by normal means, and for some, be impossible.

Newer generatrions doesnt really matter.Seems more like an instinct for Namekians and Majins. |

It doesn't really matter the origins of transformations, but how could anyone add transforms in DB MMORPG that it could fit story in other way then dragonball wish? Quests? Too easy. |

I agree that the transformations are really only used ad Dragon Ball wishes for gameplay purposes, but there is some logic to the characters not being able to achieve them on there own (though Shenlong probably shouldn't be able to help them unlock it).
All the races can be considered imperfect. The Saiyan blood in the Earthlings is to weak to allow a transformation, the Majins have reproduced so much from the same set of DNA that its become corrupted/started to degenerate, and the Namekians are not members of the demon clan so they don't have access to some of their powers. And yes, the growing in size is a trait of the demon clan according to the Daizenshuu, specifically in number 4's racial dictionary thing:
Piccolo
His arms stretch and he even grows into a giant.
Just by being able to regenerate his body's structure, he can even alter his body's volume. In particular Piccolo can transform the structure of his arms to make them stretch as well as enlarge his body, powers he inherited from the Demon Clan.
