I don't see how this thread is so bad, considering no one's actually flamed anyone else so far and we've managed to have a relatively intelligent discussion. There's no need to lock the thread until someone actually breaks the rules, and that hasn't happened yet. There's no need to restrict any privileges until people prove they can't handle them, and the folks here have done surprisingly well.

This is something I said in a similar situation a couple years ago. Kiyza was actually the mod there so she probably remembers this. It was long before the new infraction system.

With this thread, it is evident that most of the asshats on the forum have found themselves banned by the infraction system. This leaves the rest of us to have a discussion like this without the bomb going off.

Some threads are bombs waiting to go off -- that's why we automatically lock Goku Vs Superman threads now. People have proven in the past that they can't have a discussion about it without it turning into an east Vs west and spiraling out of control. On the other hand, the fact that the majority of posters in this thread, particularly when it started, were tame and calmly discussed the issue was the main reason I decided against locking it. Gay marriage isn't something that's proven an issue to discuss in the past, so I think it's best to give people the benefit of the doubt in cases like that, as opposed to things that have caused repeated problems.

Besides, the job is more like cleaning up after a nuclear reactor melts down. Usually the power plant's running smoothly, but once in a blue moon there's a problem and it has to be isolated to prevent everything from becoming irradiated. The job there is to prevent a meltdown by monitoring it and taking precautions against it, and ensure there's not radiation leak if something does go wrong. But the thing is, you want the reactor up and running because it's generating power, which is discussion.

In my opinion gay should be a crime just like how pedophilia is.

I don't know why it's legal, and the sad part is it's too late now because the gay community is too big and it would never be possible to pass laws against it. Homosexuality is known for spreading aids, so for those people who says it doesn't affect anyone else, it actually does affect humanity as a whole.

Knowingly spreading AIDs is indeed a crime and people do get punished for it. You are required to tell your partner before engaging intercourse. To do is reckless endangerment and possibly depraved indifference. Straights and gays are prosecuted equally for the most part. Straights spread AIDs just like gays do, you just don't hear about them as much because of the same idiotic hate that you have for gays.

You cannot compare homosexuality with pedophilia. Children are mentally and legally incapable of consenting to intercourse. This is why it's illegal. Gay men and women are perfectly capable of consent.

Just because YOU and YOUR religion, which is kept separate from the law don't like gays, doesn't mean it should be illegal.

I admit that its not very natural to be gay.. Because i'm pretty sure we were specifically for men and women not men and men or women and women but thats life we have to accept it.. When your in high school and college you get use to it =P

Wrong, it's perfectly natural. Homosexuality in animals occurs at almost the same rate it does in humans. If there weren't gay people walking around, THEN it would be unnatural.

Proving that homosexuality isn't a choice as so many in this thread have claimed. Homosexuality isn't a choice, you're just wired that way.
