Hey, wanted to introduce myself to the other trans'devs. Name's Chris, go by Sellicha. I'm working with a few Chinese native friends to help with the translating. They help with the lit trans, I clean it up. Feel free to PM or anything if you're interested in mine or my translators input. Really looking forward to getting this going, stoked there's finally an MMO I can sink my teeth into and help "develop".

If we made our own stuff up based on what we think should be correct, it would make others that think the official dub or the original is the correct version upset.

But there is no mistake in which of the two is the correct one. The original is and always be the correct terminology, because that's Toriyama's terminology. Dragon Ball originates from Japan, not from FUNimation.

No, we wouldn't have anything in Japanese. It's an English patch, of course.

I never said I wanted the names in Japanese. I said that I would prefer the original names, in English of course.

Transliterations of the Japanese names would work, but that would be the same has using the dub names, since they're pretty close, but they'd be less comprehensible to people who don't understand how to read Japanese transliterated into English.

Kaioshin = Supreme Kai, Tenshinhan = Tien, Genki Dama = Spirit Bomb, Kienzan = Destructo Disk, Tri Beam = Kikoho, etc, etc. Almost all the techniques are different. Heck, even FUNi is using the correct names in Kai.

In my opinion, the dub version of the names is the best way to go, because that's what the majority of the people will know and go by. We should be aiming at the bigger crowd.

Don't forget that just because it's in English doesn't mean that everyone is from USA and grew up with the FUNi dub. There are also lots of people from other places that grew up with their own dub. I believe that the names that should be used are the canon terms, not the dub terms.

Made an account just to tell you how awesome I think this is and I will download the game and when the patch is done i'll start playing. I've been waiting for something like this, and seriously, thankyou.

+1 vote for canonical names.

Yamucha, Kuririn, Muten Roshi, etc

The problem is those are translations. Those are effectively Japanese words using english text. I myself know what they mean or at least 50% of them but they have no real meaning in english language. Spirit Bomb is a bomb made from the energy and spirit of living things hence the name. Yes people may have grown up with there own dub but the problem is that the majority of people not from the asian regions use the english dub because its a widely spoken language regardless of where you are from. So then it follows to use the English terms. The English terms are not incorrect nor are they not faithful as they were made with the consent of Akira Toryama.

You argument in regards to spirit bomb is lacking...
元気玉 is Genkidama...元気=Genki meaning Energy and 玉=Dama meaning sphere. Energy Sphere is Spirit Bomb.

Maybe arguing about special beam cannon would be more prudent.
魔貫光殺砲 - Makankosoppo (Demonic Piercing Light Murder Gun)...or Special Beam Cannon as it is called in the Dub due to the translation...

The FUNi terms are incorrect. They don't have the same meaning as the original ones. For example, Kaio & Kaioshin mean Kings of the Worlds & God of the Kings of the Worlds. King Kai & Supreme Kai... What the f@ck is "Kai"? Why is Kaio of the North the King, while the other Kaios are not kings? And why is the "Kai" term initially used like a name (a King named Kai), and later as a race name? Kaio & Kaioshin are titles, not names.

Better use original names and no dubs from funimation . Remember id u say spirit bomb or so to someone he migt not know what u mean
