Everything is based and takes its roots from something, even if you consider it original. Several battle action animes/mangas (Or the more famous ones) have taken root from Dragonball (Not necessarily Z, because most of them have demons which would make more sense if Goku and Piccolo's heritage was never revealed in Z).
