There's no such thing as "other dimensions". They'd be parallel universes. The term "dimension" is frequently misused in fiction, which leads to the misconception.

They found hydrogen on the moon in the shadows in craters on the poles where sunlight never reaches. It's unconfirmed if it's in the form of water-ice and even if it is, it's not nearly enough to sustain complex life.

But of course, for the sake of playing devil's advocate, it's always possible that life need not be carbon-based or require water to sustain itself, even if it is that way here on Earth.

The thing is we won't always be able to repair our planet. Farther into the future the earth will become uninhabitable whether we screw things up or not, and we will have to leave. If we haven't found another place to live by then we will simply die. Discovery is about the species, not the generation.

That would imply that humans won't be extinct by then. We've got at least another 500 million years before solar activity renders the planet uninhabitable to animal life and I think it's disgustingly optimistic to think we'll last that long.
