The thing is we won't always be able to repair our planet. Farther into the future the earth will become uninhabitable whether we screw things up or not, and we will have to leave. If we haven't found another place to live by then we will simply die. Discovery is about the species, not the generation.

i know in another dimension there is a cat apocalypse as we speak

There's no such thing as "other dimensions". They'd be parallel universes. The term "dimension" is frequently misused in fiction, which leads to the misconception.

They found hydrogen on the moon in the shadows in craters on the poles where sunlight never reaches. It's unconfirmed if it's in the form of water-ice and even if it is, it's not nearly enough to sustain complex life.

But of course, for the sake of playing devil's advocate, it's always possible that life need not be carbon-based or require water to sustain itself, even if it is that way here on Earth.

The thing is we won't always be able to repair our planet. Farther into the future the earth will become uninhabitable whether we screw things up or not, and we will have to leave. If we haven't found another place to live by then we will simply die. Discovery is about the species, not the generation.

That would imply that humans won't be extinct by then. We've got at least another 500 million years before solar activity renders the planet uninhabitable to animal life and I think it's disgustingly optimistic to think we'll last that long.

So the sooner we leave the better. Have some humans on Mars and humans on Earth, maybe some on the moon. I like those odds a lot better.

There actually is a large amount of the population that believe the world will end in their lifetime. With the way humans act, it might.

Now, I'm not someone who hates humans, but seriously -- that's only prolonging the inevitable, don't you suppose? The moon is never going to be completely fit for human life and Mars would take time and resources that we clearly don't want to use because we're so "here and now". It would take centuries and countless trillions of dollars to terraform Mars? Forget about it! It's not like we'd ever need it.

Nah. I doubt the world will end. The world is pretty resilient, in case you haven't noticed. Now humanity on the other hand...

And what's wrong with prolonging the inevitable? If you're being shot at and have the skill needed to dodge bullets, are you just gonna stand there and let them get you right between the eyes, or are you going to dodge every bullet you can?

Sorry, mistake on my end. I meant humanity.
