Actually this is completely new and the plot to many horror movies as AI = artificial intelligence other wise known as a computer thinking for itself.

Think of movies such as IRobot, Terminator, Matrix, ECT.

Artificial intelligence isn't something new and it's not unheard of for machines to learn from experience. I mean, things like the Akinator can do that. What you're thinking of is when a machine is sentient and self-aware, which could potentially be a problem if the people developing it haven't read any Asimov. It's not a potential threat unless it can both acknowledge its own existence and defy its prior programming. You know, unless someone uses it as a sort of weapon or something...

Of course, My previous comment was a bit misleading. AI is present in many programing even DBO. AI that learn isn't new, if you played any street fighter style fighting game, you notice the computer will learn to counter that one combo you spam if you do it enough.

But AI learning through the internet is news to me. The internet is an encyclopedia of information. A computer can collect and remember information faster then a human. This is what makes me feel uneasy. If an AI were to become self aware, I would assume this is a giant step in that direction. Of course this wont stop me from making jokes.

This particular AI doesn't really have a body. All it can do is surf the internet. If it becomes self aware, the only way it can do any damage is if it learns how to hack. From there what it does depends on what it learned, which is bad because the internet doesn't exactly display the best humanity has to offer...

If it learns everything through the internet, I don't think it will be particularly intelligent. We should be safe guys.

Nothing says it will be limited to the popular websites humans frequent.
