There aren't enough resources on the planet for that to happen. They've already started to hit ceilings with urbanization and distribution of wealth; that kind of growth isn't going to continue in the super productive fashion we've seen.

There simply isn't enough in way of resources for China to do this without taking a lot from other people, and probably just quashing its neighbors like India.

EDIT: Also, they don't mention the new nuclear fusion reactor ITER's completion at all, which will be the scientific breakthrough of our generation if they figure it out.

It's true... A lot of people take our modern way of life for granted, but we will likely start to see a collapse (along with massive populaton decline) in the next 100 years unless we figure out a new energy resource (hopefully they figure out fusion soon). People who want to learn the true future of our planet should watch this:
