At 5/5 Thousand Slashes turns into an AoE, its possible that in the first picture you were hitting multiple targets, where as in the third you were only hitting one.
What can happen is 1k slashes will explode more than one dot, this has happened to me a couple of times it is usually with the same dot this is what I think leads to that op kinda damage.
